CM says he will name his new kitten 'Zebra', creating, beyond doubt, an identity crisis for the newborn.

My Parents

I know how love can sometimes be a burden of responsibility. I also know that, for the past 23 years, there's never been a complaint. Disappointed, yes, but never giving up. I don't blame you. You ought not be tortured by being coerced into understanding. I grew up struggling with it.

It's funny how our displays of affection are never quite straightforward.

Dear Mr XXX
Please allow us to explain that in line with DBS' corporate social responsibility efforts that are geared towards supporting children and learning, several welfare organisations that support similar causes were short listed. Focus on the Family, Singapaore is a voluntary welfare organisation endorsed by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. The funds DBS contributes will be directed towards building a new learning centre which is schedule to open next March for children with various learning disabilities. As this ties in with the Bank's corporate social responsibility efforts to empower children through learning, Focus on the Family, Singapore was thus selected as our beneficiary.
It is never the intention of the Bank to disciminate against any group through the choice of Focus on the Family, Singapore as our beneficiary.
We are sorry that you have chosen to close your account. We hope you would re-consider your decision. However, if you decides to do so, you may visit any of branches. Please bring along your identity card.
Once again, we thank you for your feedback.
Yours sincerely

Dear Xx XXXXX,

I understand your company's stand and I cannot do more to tell you that I am appreciative of your bank's corporate social responsibility efforts.

I do not understand, however, your insistence on the choice of Focus on the Family despite my voice of objection and concern regarding the fundamentally Evangelist, discriminatory and partisan nature of the organization. I have shown you evidence of their deviance and their dubious, questionable missions apart from their cause for children with disability which you are supporting. Isn't it right that the support of one arm of their program will lead to their prosperity in the execution of the other arms?

Granted a previous oversight without the 'intention to discriminate', why do you choose to hang on to the organization despite the revelations I have revealed to you in the past few exchanges? Did you not mention they were in a shortlist in other organizations? Or was this simply a wrong marketing decision, to choose an organization with "Family" in it because the theme this year is "Family", and this is regrettably irrevocable?

Do you even read the details of the mail or do you copy and paste a template response? Is this communication even channeled as feedback to your superiors or are these simply responses you generate on the fly and our feedback are thrown back into the black-hole of cyberspace?

It is sad that you dismiss my desire to close my accounts with no sense of remorse. Perhaps you think high net worth individuals are not bothered, and your private banking clients would not seek feedback through such means. Is monetary worth the only value worth measuring and contemplating? I am deeply disappointed and dismayed at your bank's response and treatment of this incident.

Yours Sincerely,
XXX XXXXX

Dear Mr XXX
We rerer to your email of 1 December 2008.
We would like to reiterate that it was never the intention of the Bank to discriminate against any group throught his initiative. Nonetheless, given the feedback received and to demonstrate that DBS believes in diversity and inclusion, we will be removing the Christmas charity campaign with immediate effect.
DBS will continue to play its part to support the community at large and we hope to have your understanding and support.
We thank you once again for your feedback.
Yours Sincerely

Singapore Has an Independent Judiciary
The Wall Street Journal
23 July 2008

Excerpt: "...Western newspapers, NGOs and human rights groups like the IBA's Human Rights Institute prescribe Western norms as the way for other countries to "join the ranks of modern democracies." But not every Western norm is suitable to all countries in the world. Singapore cannot allow those who carry no responsibility for Singapore's future to dictate its political and legal systems. Singaporeans know that they have a noncorrupt government and an independent judiciary. They live in one of the top five most transparent countries in the world, with the freedom to express their views, oppose the government and take part in free and fair elections. Singaporeans will choose for themselves the shape and norms for their society."
