30 January 2009

I can't believe a year has slipped by and I'm really on my way to Taipei. I am rather unexcitable, with the incessant administrative paperwork, and am spending the last days here with my senses wide open; I realize that if one is careful enough, every little thing is memorable.

Dua Dai Ji aka News Busters

The popular news busting family is back with their usual wicked doses of satirical humour as Italian impromptu street theatre meets family soap opera!

Conceptualised by Li Xie and co-devised by Tay Kong Hui, Koh Hui Ling, Evelyn Chia and Goh Seok Ai, Dua Dai Ji is the first “mockumentary theatre” created and performed in Singapore; combining elements of Italian Commedia Dell’arte, variety shows and family soap operas.

The play will poke fun at news headlines and satirise current events affecting the people of Singapore. The Dua Dai Ji family revisits the history of Singapore and looks at how decisions made after Singapore’s independence have affected us after 43 years.

Remember the Speak Mandarin, Courtesy and Family Planning Campaigns? If not and even if you do, join the Drama Box for a fun and satirised version of Singapore’s history.

Play will be performed in Mandarin and there will be a post-show session with the co-creators and cast on Friday 20 Feb. For more information, please call 6332 6919 (The Arts House) or 6324 5434 (Drama Box).

We saw him in the distance and we hurried to a store and bought him some sticks of meat due to be barbecued. The store-owner was wide-eyed when her concerns and professionalism about how it should be flavored - if it should be spicy and how well done we desired it to be - was met with a certain impetuosity and impatiently dismissed. She didn't understand..

And no one else took so many photographs of all the dogs we've met and made friends with.
